A 10-Miler Sunday in Atlanta, the Gate City
April 2022
Our Start at the World of Coca-Cola
We spent a Sunday in a beautiful, lively city, enjoying the perfect spring weather along with locals and visitors. We began our day at the World of Coca-Cola museum. The museum covers everything from the brand’s early history and its manufacturing to its global marketing.

They put on quite a show with The Vault, where the secret recipe is said to be kept. Even as skeptics, we found it quite entertaining. The best part was watching the 1971 ‘I’d like to buy the world a Coke’ Hilltop commercial on the big screen. Even after 51 years, the iconic ad is still powerful.
And Continuing with Exploring Atlanta's Gems
After the museum, we explored several parks and neighborhoods. Centennial Olympic Park, which is at the center of the 1996 Olympic legacy, was full of people enjoying the outdoors.
We walked past Atlanta’s downtown high-rises and into the Underground area, now a hub for arts, entertainment, and nightlife. In the 1920s, downtown traffic was rerouted, so 19th-century storefronts and streets ended up beneath the modern viaducts.
The gold dome of the State Capitol building shone in the sun as we passed through the government district. We also visited the King Historic District, where Dr. King was born and preached. Today, it is a National Park Service site.
