High Ceilings and Historic Charm in Jacksonville, FL

March 2022

Our Springfield Airbnb in Jacksonville, FL

We stayed in Springfield, Jacksonville’s oldest neighborhood, just north of downtown. This historic district was established in 1869 and was once home to the city’s elite. Many 19th and early 20th-century homes and churches have been beautifully restored.
Ours was one of these! We had an entire spacious, updated upstairs apartment in this lovely, tree-filled neighborhood. It featured high ceilings, large windows, original wooden floors, a fireplace, and plenty of space.

A Stroll Along the St. Johns River

Starting from our Airbnb, we walked to and strolled along both sides of the majestic St. Johns River, the Southbank in San Marco, and the Northbank Riverwalk in downtown Jacksonville and enjoyed stunning views of the city and the river. We initially believed that the rusted, nearly 100-year-old Jacksonville Railroad Bridge was abandoned until we heard sirens and saw it close.

While I usually avoid spaces under bridges and viaducts due to their often dirty and smelly conditions, Corkscrew Park beneath the Acosta Bridge was a delightful exception. This well-maintained, shaded workout area featured artwork and provided a safe and pleasant walking place.

Another Airbnb Farewell!

At 10:30 am, we hit the road again! We loved this apartment and the historic neighborhood—what a fantastic experience.

Over the past six weeks, Florida has given us unforgettable memories filled with incredible visits and long hikes.

However, we were also ready for the next adventure, exploring new territory in South Carolina!

A Goodbye to Florida & A Hello to South Carolina

We weren’t lucky with the weather. On our drive to Fripp Island, SC, the rain was pouring down in Florida and Georgia. However, the moment we crossed the state border into South Carolina, it stopped. We took that as a good omen for our upcoming stay.
