Soaking Up the Southern Charm in Little Charleston

We went to see downtown historic Georgetown, the third-oldest city in the state after Beaufort and Charleston. Georgetown, established in 1729, is a charming town filled with quaint shops and historic antebellum architecture.

.

Georgetown was a significant seaport in the past. Its location at the intersection of several rivers, the Sampit, Black, Great Pee Dee, and Waccamaw, allowed it to become a major center for commerce. Today, it is the second-largest seaport in the Lowcountry, after Charleston.
I loved the Harborwalk, a wide wooden boardwalk along the Sampit River. The historical atmosphere remains tangible here. On one side, we watched the calm river flow, and on the other, we explored cozy restaurants and boutique shops.
For lunch, we found a perfect spot at Joseph Rainey Park, named after the first Black U.S. congressman from South Carolina. We sat on a bench near the fountain and enjoyed our homemade lunch. The sun was out, and we soaked in the views and the relaxing Southern charm in this town often called “Little Charleston”.
