We also found a peaceful spot in the dynamic city of Philadelphia. We visited Gloria Dei, the oldest church in Pennsylvania and the second oldest in America. The church was founded by early Swedish settlers when the area was named New Sweden. Models of the ships that brought Swedish settlers to their new land are attached to the ceiling, commemorating Swedish immigration.
The graveyard felt serene and was beautiful, with blossoming tulips and trees. The oldest headstone in the Gloria Dei Church graveyard dates to 1704. Remarkably, the church is an active religious congregation to this day.
