A Glimpse of Canyonlands National Park

April 2021

Standing on the Edge at Canyonlands' Grand View Point

After Dead Horse State Park, we visited Canyonlands National Park. The park is divided into four regions, each with its own characteristics: Island in the Sky, The Needles, The Maze, and the Colorado River with its tributaries. This is Utah’s version of the Grand Canyon, a massive park with 527.5 square miles of mesas, buttes, canyons, arches, and hiking trails.

We knew that with our short afternoon visit, we would only see a fraction of the national park. So, we drove to several viewpoints and only hiked the one-mile trail to the Canyonlands Grand View Point. As promised, situated at the southern end of the Island in the Sky, the Grand View Point offered a breathtaking look across ridged canyons, the iconic White Rim Road, with glimpses of the Maze and Needles, and the Colorado River.

I dared not go near the edge; it would have been a long fall.
