A Day at Cape Cod National Seashore

May 2025

From City Streets to Coastal History

After all our city trips, we wanted to soak in nature’s energy and headed to Cape Cod National Seashore, a peninsula extending into the Atlantic Ocean, established as a National Park by President John F. Kennedy in 1961.

Scanning for Whales at Race Point

We picked up the brochures at the visitor center and drove to Race Point Beach for a walk along the shore, hoping to spot whales, despite the ranger’s mention at the visitor center. Unfortunately, the whales did not show themselves.

Obscured Views at Marconi Beach

The sky was darkening when we returned to the car and drove to our second location, Marconi Station Site. Here, where the peninsula is at its narrowest, you can typically see both the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod Bay. Sadly, the fog had already rolled in, obscuring the view.

Atlantic White Cedar Swamp Trail

We ended our visit with another short walk along the fascinating Atlantic White Cedar Swamp trail, which winds through a unique landscape with crooked trees and a long boardwalk through a magical swamp. We decided to shortcut our visit since the rain began pouring when we finished our hike. Still, we were glad to have had a lovely day here in this beautiful nature reserve.
