Channel Islands National Park

Day 2 - An Unforgettable Voyage to Santa Rosa Island

A Tale of Whales

We had booked the Island Packers ferry to the Channel Islands National Park, to Santa Rosa Island, on this beautiful day. Sailing to the island was an unexpected sea safari, and it was the most incredible and amazing surprise.
Our sea safari started when we left Ventura’s harbor. Pelicans were enjoying the warmth of the rising sun. Seals were sound asleep on the buoy and gently rocked by the ocean’s waves. A shy, juvenile humpback whale showed itself for a brief moment before disappearing into the ocean’s deep waters. Later, we also witnessed the release of a wild seal in the sea that had been rescued about a hundred days earlier by wildlife volunteers.

A Tale of Pines

On the island, we hiked to the Torrey Pines forest to see the rarest pine in North America. Of course, the trail offered stunning views of the island and the ocean.

And A Tale of Dolphins

And as we sailed back to Ventura, we witnessed another spectacle with dolphins jumping over the waves made by the boat! It was a fantastic experience to see these animals being playful in their natural habitat, and a spectacular way to end this unforgettable visit.
