Elvis Birthplace Museum Chapel Park

From Humble Beginnings, Exploring Elvis's Birthplace

We drove to Tupelo to visit Elvis Birthplace Museum Chapel Park. Built by his father, the small shotgun home stands in its original location. The stove and fireplace were the only original items from when Elvis lived there. However, with the help of Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley, the rest of the interior has been recreated to visualize Elvis’ humble beginnings.

Elvis’s childhood church is original but was relocated to this site. We saw a beautiful presentation in the church that was enlightening. As a result, we could clearly understand the origins of Elvis Presley’s love of gospel music.
Before Elvis’s rise to fame, the family faced financial hardship. When Vernon could not repay the loan he had taken to build the house, they lost the home and moved to Memphis for a better life. Within two decades, the successful artist Elvis bought his mansion in Graceland in Memphis for himself and his parents so they could live in the home they deserved.
