From The Riverwalk to the Bean, Rediscovering Chicago After 10 Years

July 2024

After ten years, we were back in Chicago, IL. The weather was perfect for a long stroll downtown. It was incredible to see how much the area has changed. We walked on the Riverwalk, which has undergone beautiful improvements since our last visit. Our walk continued to Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, the Chicago Tribune building, the Wrigley Building, the starting point of Route 66, the Loop, Buckingham Fountain (famous for the intro of Married… with Children), and, of course, Millennium Park’s Cloud Gate, better known as “the Bean.”
It was fun revisiting all our favorite spots and adding some new ones. The city has definitely improved! Some areas we walked into were just massive construction zones ten years ago. Today, we saw the results of these immense projects, which have truly enhanced Chicago’s beauty and made downtown much better. We plan to return to Chicago for a longer stay in the near future to visit a new presidential library. We, of course, do want to visit the Obama Presidential Center, which is under construction and is scheduled to open to the public in the fall of 2025.
