Siler Bald, The Crown of the Nantahala

We had an amazing day hiking. After a steady and sometimes challenging climb along another part of the famous Appalachian Trail, we finally reached the “top of the world” for lunch. We made it to Siler Bald, a beautiful peak at 5,220 feet in the Nantahala National Forest near Franklin, North Carolina. The view was worth it. From the grassy summit, we had a stunning, clear 360-degree view of the Blue Ridge and Nantahala Mountains around us.
In hindsight, we picked the perfect season to hike in the mountains. The weather was just right, even though the tall trees had no leaves yet, small mountain flowers were blooming along the trail, and were showing their bright colors. Finding these little surprises is what makes hiking so enjoyable every time.
