Mission San Fernando Rey de España

A Visit to Mission San Fernando Rey de España

Mission San Fernando Rey de España, a Spanish mission in Los Angeles, was founded on 8 September 1797, the seventeenth of the twenty-one Spanish missions along the El Camino Real.
The mission was a large, thriving agricultural center, producing several crops like corn and wheat. It had a large livestock herd, including cattle, sheep, and horses. It was also a thriving industrial center supplying tallow, soap, hides, blankets, wine, olive oil, and ironwork.

The mission is still an active part of the Catholic Church today. It is also a beautiful, peaceful, and authentic-looking historic site. We have visited three El Camino Real missions, and we all loved them. I definitely must add a new bucket item to this growing list: visiting all 21 missions between Santa Diego and San Francisco.
