Our Stay in Lancaster, OH

April 2025

Trading Naperville's Chill for Lancaster's Spring

Following an enjoyable few weeks with family in chilly Naperville, IL, we headed eastbound just after 8 am Central Time (CT). Just an hour later, we experienced hardly any traffic around Chicago, we crossed into Indiana on I-94 near Lansing.
As the hours and miles passed, we entered Ohio near Monroeville, Indiana, around 1 pm Eastern Time. After eight hours, our 386-mile drive ended. We had arrived at our charming Airbnb in the historic heart of downtown Lancaster, OH, with quaint streets and small-town charm. Thankfully, it feels like spring here!

My Running Trail for the Week in Lancaster

After a good night’s sleep, I went to the trail near the Airbnb. Exploring new trails is always an adventure, but this didn’t disappoint. It was well-maintained, ran alongside the river, and featured viaducts to cross the roads. This will likely be my running and walking trail for the upcoming week.

A Few Chilly Starts at Cenci Lake

As stated, I would return to Cenci Park for my running practice. The next day, I was back for a walk.
I followed the trail in the opposite direction, as I had done yesterday. The 9.5-mile paved Fairfield Heritage Trail is a former rail bed winds through Lancaster. Since I was bundled up in layers, I didn’t feel the cold wind and enjoyed my early chilly exercise routine.

.

Over the next few days, the weather improved significantly. I welcomed the sunny runs. On April 15th, I completed my final run at a comfortable pace, my fitting farewell to this beautiful trail.

A Chilly Stroll Downtown Lancaster

After nearly a week in Lancaster, we finally dedicated our last day to exploring its downtown historic district. Bundled against the chill, we wandered its charming streets and unexpectedly discovered a statue of General William Tecumseh Sherman. The namesake of the M4 Sherman tank was born right here!
