Our Stay in Pownal, ME

May 2025

Saying Goodbye to Northern Maine

After a short in Littleton, ME, we checked out around 10 am. Although we would not leave Maine, we were saying goodbye to the most northern part of the East Coast of the USA.

Along the way, we stopped at the Mount Katahdin Scenic Overlook on I-95 to get a glimpse of the mountain. However, it was still a bit hidden in the clouds.

Our "New" New Home Base

We had a smooth drive the rest of our way to Pownal, with an additional stop to pick up some necessary groceries. After getting settled in Pownal, we called it a day and relaxed in our brand-new studio.

The Trail Around the Corner

Around the corner from our Airbnb, we found another great running trail for the week. This time it was an unpaved, shaded road with hardly any traffic, and no roaming dogs. This rural atmosphere, where Spring had just sprung with fresh green leaves rustling in the wind and birds tweeting their songs, made the run so much more enjoyable, even though I had some challenging climbs to conquer.
I returned three times, the third time with my camera, which I normally never bring on a run. Since this week’s training routine included a mindfulness activity that replaced the run with a walk, I finally captured the beautiful surroundings.

The Trail Around the Corner

As the first guests in this brand-new Airbnb above the garage, we had a top-notch stay.

What was especially noticeable to us was the abundance of natural light. We embraced the large windows that drew the surrounding greenery and sunlight right into the studio, just as they do in our Dutch apartment. We loved coming back to a “home-that-really-felt-like-home” after exploring the area.

So on checkout day, it was even harder to say goodbye to this fantastic Airbnb and to end our amazing three-week round trip here in The Pine Tree State. After packing and taking a few pictures as a keepsake, we were on the road again early. We had another long drive ahead to Tupper Lake, NY.
