From Broekhuizen to Venlo

The view in our room in the Maashotel in Broekhuizen was magnificent; I quietly watched the ferry go back and forward while sipping a freshly brewed coffee. Unfortunately, I only could enjoy the view for a short time because we wanted to start our second Pieter path day early.

We walked back to the point we detoured yesterday, Schuitwater Nature Reserve. Once, the Maas river meandered here and carved deep walls through the Swolgender Heathland. Via charming House Kaldenbroek (built in the 15th century), we walked through the same-named nature reserve to Grubbenvorst. A public monument shows the importance of the asparagus – the white gold – to the local economy. We crossed the Maas river and followed the exuberantly blooming floodplains of the Maas to the Wilhelmina Hotel in Venlo, our endpoint for the day.

.

Hubby and I often notice some parts of the Pieter path trail are quiet. Today, at the beginning of the path, we saw the wooden bench with the message, “listen to how calm it is.” And in Venlo, we saw a statue with the text, “seek the stillness that animates.” Both quotes get to the heart of expressing why we love walking the Pieter path!
