An Early Landing at O’Hare

On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, we returned to the United States. After an easy bus and train ride, we arrived at Schiphol right on time and departed without delay. Our plane even landed early at Chicago O’Hare—so early, in fact, that our son was still on his way to pick us up.
That evening, we celebrated our homecoming with our son, daughter-in-law, and grandson over a sushi dinner, before finally calling it a day. For our bodies, it still felt seven hours later. After checking in, taking a shower, and unwinding, I fell asleep quickly.

Hemmes, too, was glad to be at the hotel, where he could finally settle in for a proper nap. Once again, I must give credit where credit is due: our loyal frequent flyer had behaved absolutely purrfect in the skies
A Week with Family and Friends
Furthermore, the next few days were filled with connection. I met up again with old friends at Naperville’s International Women’s Group, which brought laughter and spirited conversations.
Precious time with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson added even more color to the week, whether playing at the playground, exploring a farm together, or cooking and sharing warm family dinners. Needless to say, these happy days reconnecting flew by.

So, before we knew it, we were back on the road again. At around 7:30 a.m., we set out on the road again, mainly following the same route we had taken in the spring. Crossing Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania felt familiar; however, the scenery was completely different this time, with sunny skies and the golden colors of fall.
By afternoon, we arrived in Erie and checked into the Red Roof Hotel downtown. After unpacking and settling in, we decided not to head back out. Instead, we enjoyed a simple evening with snacks, drinks, and a quiet dinner in our room—Hemmes purring contentedly beside us. After an active week and a long drive, slowing down felt just like the right thing to do.
