The Lost Pine Cabin in Oakhurst, CA

A Scenic Retreat Near Yosemite

From Mammoth Lakes, CA, we drove through Yosemite National Park to our Airbnb in Oakhurst, CA, the “Southern Gateway” to the national park. The welcoming “Lost Pine Cabin” was situated on top of a ridge, allowing us to enjoy the views of the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Although Hemmes could roam around freely in the yard, we were warned not to do so because of the wildlife that roamed around. Despite this restriction for Hemmes, the cabin was a peaceful home for a week.

Retiring My Worn-Out Hiking Shoes

My comfortable and supportive hiking shoes and I have been together for countless miles since August 2021! Together, we completed the long-distance “Pilgrims’ Path LAW7.1” in the Netherlands. Then, you accompanied me across the Atlantic, where we set foot in the diverse landscapes of the southeastern and western United States.
Last week, I finally bought new hiking shoes and put them to the test with a walk in the neighborhood. And I was pleased with them. Not to say, I wasn’t happy with you two: you’ve been protecting my feet, legs, and body through every step of these past years, and for that, I couldn’t be more grateful. However, I have worn you out, and it is time for you to retire.

A Gentle Stroll at Bass Lake

After several days of strenuous hiking in Yosemite National Park, my feet and legs really needed a break. Since it was a beautiful fall day, we still wanted to get out for a short hike, so we drove to the Sierra National Forest in the nearby Bass Lake area. We parked close to the Crane Valley Dam and followed a flat, though scenic, path for a few miles, even walking right over the dam itself.
I took numerous pictures of the quiet scenery and watched people enjoying themselves out on the water. This walk felt easy and was the perfect choice to give our feet a break while still taking in the beauty of the Sierra National Forest.

A Fond Farewell to the Lost Pine Cabin

With some time to bridge before our next Airbnb, we appreciated being given a noon checkout. We packed, marked off the remaining items on our checklist, and left the pet fee in the microwave. After that, returning the key to the outdoor lockbox was all that was left to do. And, of course, thanking the cabin for a lovely stay and the beautiful sunsets that I am certainly going to miss. However, our travels continue, there are so many other destinations to explore.
