Valley Forge National Historic Park

April 2025

Even before we started, we knew we would only see a small part of Valley Forge National Historical Park. This site is enormous, spanning 3,500 acres and featuring 35 miles of trails. Due to its importance in American history, it is also extremely popular.

The ranger at the visitor center advised us to follow part of the 10-mile Encampment tour to see most of the park’s highlights. The park is the former site of the Continental Army’s winter base during the American Revolutionary War, in the winter of 1777-1778. No fights occurred here, although the army lost many soldiers to disease. Despite the hardships, General George Washington made this army with soldiers of various backgrounds stronger and more unified, marking the turning point in the American Revolutionary War.

The strengthening and unification proved crucial toward the American victory 5 years later.
