Lakeside Paths and a Lighthouse at Thirty Mile Point

After yesterday’s long drive, we were ready to stretch our legs, so we set out for a hike in Golden Hill State Park, Barker, NY, and a visit to the old Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse Trail led us to the Thirty-Mile Point Lighthouse, which became operational on April 27, 1876. It marks the northernmost point of Lake Ontario’s south shore. It was built to guide ships safely navigate the lake away from a shallow sandbar. Before, many ships ran aground here and never made it through.
The Red Trail took us through the woods and up to the water again. At one point, a deer crossed our path, pausing long enough for us to take a picture. Even though the park wasn’t large, we missed some markers, and ultimately, by following the main road, we found our way back to the parking lot.
