Urban Miami, A Blend of Art, Chic, and Challenges

We began our Miami adventure parking at the Museum Garage in the Design District, a lovely architectural building with a beautiful artistic front. We strolled through Midtown Miami, a vibrant and energetic part of town. This well-maintained neighborhood is a sanctuary for shoppers, with stylish boutiques, high-end galleries, and contemporary skyscrapers.
The Wynwood neighborhood is an outdoor museum showcasing a spectacular collection of colorful murals made by renowned street artists worldwide. Unfortunately, Downtown Miami presented a strong contrast. We encountered many homeless individuals and numerous vacant stores, leaving a somewhat depressing impression of this part of town.
However, the Biscayne Boulevard presented a positive scenery again. This elegant road offered a charming blend of impressive old and new buildings. We enjoyed exploring landmarks such as the Freedom Tower, a significant symbol of Cuban immigration, the lively Bayside Marketplace, the fantastic Museum of Science, and the serene Maurice A. Ferre Park.

Miami's Art Deco District, Rescued from Ruin

Our last exploration in Miami! We went to the Miami Beach Art Deco Historic District to see and feel the century-old history of this part of town. 800+ colorful, whimsical buildings make this district attractive and vibrant.

Unimaginable is that developers almost destroyed these buildings in the early 1970s. However, the mile-square neighborhood has been protected since 1992 against demolition as it entered the National Register of Historic Places.
