Prologue
Many, many years after I heard about the Pieterpad for the first time, I am finally going to hike the most famous long-distance walk in the Netherlands! We left home just over 9 am and arrived in Pieterburen around 2:30 pm. With public transportation, we took the bus to Utrecht, the train to Meppel, the NS bus to Groningen via Assen, and the Arriva stop train to the most beautiful village in the Netherlands, according to the ANWB, Winsum, and finally, the Arriva bus to Pieterburen.Â
After checking in at hotel Waddengenot, we walked the prologue (about 10 kilometers) as a warm-up. The prologue offered a well-known scenery: this is the northern part of the Netherlands I grew up! I still appreciate the beauty of small towns, red roofs, and flat land with large grass and potato fields.
