And one week later, we continued our Pieterpad hike. We walked some “Flinten” roads. These streets are silent reminders of this area’s labor-intensive job creation projects a century ago. We are still in Drenthe, now known by us by its forests, canals, wetlands, dolmens, and small village greens. The monument in honor of the Pieterpad creators, Bertje Jens and Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma, is impressive and well-deserved because they marked the Pieterpad between 1978 and 1983.
