Part 7 - From Holsloot to Gramsbergen
From Holsloot to Gramsbergen
We walked from Holsloot via the oldest fortified city of Drenthe, Coevorden, to Gramsbergen, Overijssel! We saw a lot of artwork today! Driftplein, iron skeletons represent the buildings you can see in Drenthe: farms, vacations cottages, and industrial buildings. A colossal iron spade represents the tool used by many men who, by hard labor, transformed the area from swamp to farmland. The gate of Drenthe is made with giant boulders found in Drenthe. And, at our destination in Gramsbergen, we saw the statue Pieterpad made by Nelleke Allersma and (her?) eloquently written poem that sums up my experience.
“They pass with a firm step. With admiration and joy. For a while, they leave the fatigues of the long journey behind them. And then, with fresh courage, they follow the road again. Carrying the treasures of Gramsbergen in their hearts.”
