Big Spring, a Natural Wonder!
Big Spring is a giant spring with cool, 58°F water constantly bubbling from the base of a bluff. While the exact depth is unclear, it’s undeniably massive. Big Spring is Missouri’s largest Spring and a candidate for the third-largest title in the United States.
Every day, Big Spring releases a staggering 286 million gallons of water. Imagine a single raindrop traveling underground passages for up to 45 miles and re-emerging here after 130 days! As the water travels, it dissolves limestone minerals, giving the Spring its beautiful color. All those millions of gallons combined dissolve an estimated 70 tons of limestone daily!
Big Spring is an incredible natural wonder and a hidden gem we didn’t expect to find here in Missouri.
