Mammoth Lakes Summer Delights

A Welcoming Start!

Our charming Mammoth Lakes escape began in our cozy studio. The delightful decor and perfect location made it a home base we loved returning to after a day of exploring. It had everything we needed, along with that extra warmth that made travelers like us feel welcomed.

A Delightful Escape to Mammoth Lakes

We were also pleasantly surprised by Mammoth Lakes itself! Unlike other resorts, which are in winter mode year-round, Mammoth Lakes transformed into a charming, vibrant summer destination. Many tourists like us enjoyed summer outdoor activities—hiking, walking, and mountain biking—amidst the magnificent Sierra Nevada Mountains.

A delightful discovery in town was the bakery called “Bakkerij” Schat. Their Dutch bread and goodies were fantastic, especially their authentic sheepherder bread. We are going to miss their special treats!

Minaret Vista Overlook's Surprise

Leaving Devil’s Postpile National Monument, the sign for the Minaret Vista Overlook caught our attention. Let’s go; it may be worthwhile. Forget the maybe; it simply was. Minaret Vista offered a scenic overlook with stunning panoramas. We finally got a great view of Mammoth Mountain!

We returned two days later to hike part of the San Joaquin Ridge Trail. We got a great view of the Minarets in the Ritter Range, which were also fantastic with their ragged peaks rising into the sky.

Saying Goodbye to Mammoth Lakes Summer Delights

Our fun-filled week in Mammoth Lakes just flew by! Since we had a late checkout, I went for a short morning walk downtown while hubby was packing. At a hiking store, I found some hiking shoes on sale. My old shoes had seen better days, and a new pair had been long overdue! Happy with my steal, I returned to the Airbnb.
Back at the Airbnb, we were almost ready to drive off, this time tobOakhurst, CA, on the west side of Yosemite. After I brought Hemmes in the carrier to the car, I repeated my ritual: thanking the lovely, well-decorated studio that had been our home, locking the door, and saying goodbye.
