About seven hours after leaving St. Charles, IL, crossing the Mississippi River straight into Hannibal at the Missouri border, we arrived at our Airbnb in Missouri’s capital, Jefferson City.

Once we were settled, we took a short walk across the Jefferson City Bridge to the North Jefferson City Recreation Area and were happy to find another flat running trail we could start from home. Did I mention that the Airbnb’s location offered stunning views of the Missouri River, the Missouri State Capitol, and the bridge? Well, it certainly did!

Beating the Rainy Day Slouch

After being stuck all day indoors, I headed out for a quick post-dinner run as soon as the rain finally had stopped. I’d promised myself a minimum of two miles, but ended up doing 3.2 miles, even if my pace was nothing to brag about. The bridge was still slippery, so I had to shorten my steps and watch my footing. Plus, climbing up and over the bridge was actually pretty steep, despite my first impression that the route was flat. I came back sweaty but re-energized and felt proud that I had conquered my slouching mindset and had gone out, moved, and got some fresh air.
A Riverside Retreat in Missouri’s Capital
Our Airbnb had been the perfect base for exploring Jefferson City. We stayed in the lower-level apartment, which felt incredibly welcoming from the moment we walked in. And even though we were right in downtown Jefferson City, the neighborhood itself was surprisingly quiet, with hardly any traffic passing by.

So, it was hard to say goodbye five days later. I would have loved to stay a bit longer.
