A Valentine's Day Road Trip to Key West

February 2022

Making Memories in Key West

We started this Valentine’s morning early to maximize our day trip to Key West. A stay-over had proven challenging due to budget constraints or restrictive pet policies. However, the 3.5-hour, 165-mile scenic journey flew by. Along the way, we were treated to breathtaking views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
Once in Key West, we strolled around and explored several iconic landmarks. At Duval Street, we first had a delightful lunch. We took pictures at the 0-mile Marker of Highway 1, the symbolic starting point for the iconic coastal route. We peeked at the historic Little White House, President Truman’s former winter White House. We had to stand in line for a photo opportunity at the southernmost point of the continental USA, the Southernmost Point Buoy. Due to time constraints, we did not climb to the top of the Key West Lighthouse or tour the famous Ernest Hemingway House with its cats.

The sunset made the drive back mesmerizing as well. Although we hadn’t given each other cards, flowers, poems, or presents, our adventurous traveling souls welcomed something much more precious to cherish. We made new memories visiting Key West for the first time! Happy Valentine’s Day!
