The United States Journey Continues

Three quick weeks later, we were back at the airport, welcoming our son and daughter-in-law back home. After a celebratory dinner with delightful chit-chatting, it was time for goodbyes again. We then headed to Hillsboro’s Extended Stay America hotel for some last-minute preparation and a quiet, comfortable evening.

Our 1st Long Leg, Driving to Redding, CA

On September 1st, we hit the road early at 8 a.m. sharp, knowing a long drive lay ahead. We got a familiar question crossing the California border: “Any fresh produce?” This time, we didn’t. We had learned our lesson since our delicious cherries had met their sad fate at another border checkpoint a few weeks prior.

Relaxing in Redding, CA

Reaching the Red Roof Hotel in Redding around 5 p.m., the rain continued its downpour and forced us to abandon our usual post-travel walk. Instead, we embraced a cozy evening with microwaved home-cooked goodness, warm blankets, and catching up with our favorite shows.

Our 2nd Leg, Driving to Grizzly Flats, CA

Thankfully, the next day, September 2, 2023, brought sunshine and clear skies. We enjoyed a smooth drive. By 4 p.m., we had settled into our welcoming Airbnb in Grizzly Flats, CA.
