A Route 66 Gem
Stepping Back in Time at the Hubbell Duplex
On the western end of Amarillo’s famed Route 66, we stayed in the historic Hubbell Duplex. The duplex is included on the National Register of Historic Places and is an example of the modest houses built during the city’s boom years. Local architect Guy Carlander designed the house in 1925 for Mr. and Mrs. Hubbell, owners of the Hubbell Diamond T Truck Company. The renters said the duplex has mostly stayed the same since its construction.
Needless to say, we were mesmerized by our stay. The charming and inviting atmosphere, complete with lovely Route 66 tributes, created a delightful experience. Conveniently, there was abundant parking behind the house. While our first days were chilly, preventing us from enjoying the lovely patio, the overall comfort made our four days in Amarillo a perfect stay.
