From Valkenburg to Pieter Mountain
Today, we walked our 23rd leg of the Pieter Path from Valkenburg to Pieter Mountain, which means we completed the trail!
Although the Pieter Pad is about 500 km, our distance was a little longer, about 550 km. We added extra kilometers to walk to bus stations, train stations, or hotels not directly located on the route.
We started on May 17th, 2022, in Pieterburen. What began as a wish many years ago became an accomplishment in less than four months. We hiked seven times, 2 days and three times, 3-days, for a total of 23 days.
"Between Wish and Accomplishment Lies A Large Distance"
I became more proud of our little country. It revealed its treasures only when I took the time to walk from north to south. And I find it amazing we could quite easily reach every starting point by public transportation!Â
Also, I am thankful my 60-year-old self physically managed to walk 15 miles (24 km) on average daily. Clearly, it has been a great experience.
